REFERRAL INFORMATION

If you live in the Greater Toronto Area and are looking for insomnia treatment with Dr. Cara Ooi, a physician referral is required. 

 

In addition to providing general Sleep Medicine consultation and management for patients ages 13 and above, Dr. Ooi provides insomnia treatment in patients ages 13-18 years only.  

 

All new patients will be assessed at the Medsleep location.  Please note: All services are currently being delivered virtually.

All appointments are covered by OHIP.

Adult Students

INSOMNIA TREATMENTS PROVIDED BY DR. OOI

Dr. Ooi provides cognitive-behavioural therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) for patients ages 13-18.  

 

CBT-I is an evidence-based and first-line treatment option for chronic insomnia.  Please read these articles for more information about chronic insomnia and CBT-I.

 

In response to the common challenges and barriers that often come up for teens when addressing insomnia, Dr. Ooi is also developing and testing another program called the DECODE Insomnia Program.  More information and the option to participate in this treatment program will be discussed at the time of consultation

A course of treatment may take place over 3-10 appointments every 1-2 weeks.

ABOUT DR. CARA OOI

Dr. Ooi is a sleep physician and psychiatrist.  She obtained her medical degree from the University of Western Ontario then completed her residency and subspecialty training in General Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. Dr. Ooi subsequently completed a fellowship in Sleep Medicine, during which she received training in cognitive-behavioural therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) from clinical psychologist Dr. Colleen Carney, a world expert in CBT-I and principal investigator of the Sleep and Depression Lab at Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada.  

 

Dr. Ooi is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and has an academic appointment (Lecturer) with the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto.
